I went to see the Dragonball movie with my BF.

LOL.

That is all.

Well, no, also: Toriyama-sensei, I am so, so sorry.

It was like High School Musical romance (no offense HSM! I love ya!) plus crummy video game plotting plus Spike from Buffy in an American accent and green skin.

XD

Rewatching Babylon 5 from the beginning is like rereading a great old book that you've left just long enough to not remember all the plot details. This show looks dated because of the older effects and tech, but man, it's still as good now as it was then.

Fun stuff from the DVD commentaries:

-Centauri hair crests were an accident. Peter Jurasik came out of makeup with that huge hair, intending it to be a joke. He walked up to JMS and said "what do you think?! This works, doesn't it?" JMS thought it was pretty ridiculous, but generally was willing to go with what actors preferred, so he pretty much said "oh, absolutely." Thus, Peter Jurasik thought he really did like it, and went back to makeup saying JMS wanted the hair, and so the hair stayed, even though neither of them actually wanted it that way.

-In Severed Dreams, when Delenn shows up with the fleet and delivers that line, JMS says, "coming up is a bit that most fans call their favourite moment... I really love it too. I'll just sit here and watch it with you." I had mixed feeling about a commentary over that line, but there was no need to worry!

No boom today... boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow. )

So I found The Naono Bohra English Scanlation Database, which is sort of like hitting the motherlode. So much wonderful stuff over there. Bohra's so awesome, even if the story isn't always my favourite (but it's usually pretty near my tastes :D) the art is to die for.

Plus... she's really very funny. One of her Naruto doujinshi (The first one listed in the doujinshi list on the page linked above) just about killed me with this panel and Kakashi's rather deadpan delivery of some really over-the-top description--and so kudos to the scanlators, as well:

Photobucket

LOL at Iruka's expression.

Random squee:

Holy shit, went to see Speed Racer because the trailer looked shiny. Loved it! Cheesetastic and funny and very shiny, omg. If real racing was like that, I'd watch it. Thoroughly enjoyed every moment, despite the mystifying presence of the chimp (never saw the source material, so I dunno wtf there is a chimp for).

Haha, this song played over the credits. It's in like four languages or something. Awesome:

Yeah... like I said, cheesetastic but I loved it.

This is a pretty neat one for Sanji and Zoro fans--the description calls it yaoi but it's all images from the anime so it's mostly a look at their interactions and a lot of eye candy, lol. It's a slideshow more than a vid, but the images flip quite fast and are fun to look at (a bunch are still-frame versions of scenes)

Embedded over this way... )

This is a very awesome and hilarious melding of the musicals Avenue Q and Fiddler on the Roof. With a few helpful subtitles :D meant for people who don't know English (but helps to catch some words even if you do, hehe).

I just bought a sink off ebay. That was kind of weird. But we need a sink, so hurrah!

In other news, I got my Straight no Chaser and Vocal Point CDs from a-cappella.com and they're awesome. SnC has a cover of a song called Return to Pooh corner that I fell in love with instantly. I looked it up on Youtube and lo and behold, the original version by Kenny Loggins, with a wonderful vid:

Okay, this is hardly professional-quality stuff here, but I still got a major kick out of watching this videos. They're the song "What is this Feeling? (Loathing)" from the musical Wicked, interpreted through American Sign Language (don't worry, the music is playing as well.

In the first vid (can't embed this one, function turned off by the maker), I'm pretty sure that the signs are not standard ASL--grammatical ASL is not word-for-word English, it's its own language, and they seem to be signing the song word for word, so it's more like Signed English. I don't care if that's the case--it's a lot of fun to watch.

In this second one, you can see better, and you'll notice there are far fewer signs being used (more likely to be real ASL?). Still fun to watch, though, the girls do a nice job of getting the feeling of the song through

Fascinating stuff.

When I was quite little, grade two or three, the teacher brought the BBC Narnia miniseries in for us to watch at Christmas time. Found a clip on Youtube to the (very lovely) opening theme. It was from these that I learned the differences between books and how they show up on screen, I remember my little brain trying to figure out why the stuff on the TV wasn't exactly how I'd seen it in my head, or why they kept skipping things!

Anyway, I loved it. The theme still makes me very happy, and for some reason the low-ish production values you can see in these clips doesn't bother me even a little. I have to get these on DVD.

William Tell's Overture -- for moms.

As enacted by the fine students in the Ouran Host Club. (I am pretty sure this could apply equally to dads, though not my own particular male parent.)

I just emailed this to my own dear mother, I hope she laughs as much as I did.

Oh my god... Square One. the memories!

Especially Mathnet. Wow, Kate Monday is gorgeous. The music is hilarious, and the story is really pretty meta: "We decided to watch some clips from yesterday's episode to confirm what we knew for sure."

Monday is so hilariously deadpan.

(and I got surprisingly engaged in the "plot," lol.)

And a song about roman numerals.

Why isn't anything this good on anymore??

I love the show Reboot, it was awesome. That said, I hadn't thought of it in while. Looked some stuff up on Youtube this morning, though, re-enjoyed the season three intros, and found something cool:

This vid makes me so happy it's beyond irrational.

Shirked work. Called in "sick." Awesome.

Baked! Baked lots. Chocolate chip cookies, chocolate brownies, chocolate shortbread (hit upon a good recipe :D) and banana bread (with chocolate chips).

Still on a high from [info]orin's fanart. OMG. I saved them on my computer, I hope that's okay. ::looks again:: ::gleeeeeeee::

Also, ran a Kara raid tonight with the guild and got a nice main hand for my rogue! I am very much enjoying the WoW experience again.

And the birthday doesn't even suck, though it's a weekday! I got an actual present from my co-worker (fish tank stuff \o/) and one of the team leaders I actually like came over extra-happily to wish me happy birthday, and then CC'd the whole ops department telling them to do the same. XD

Tonight I shall be ordering sushi in and watching Spirited Away and possibly a few episodes of House. And my mom, who is visiting, said I could browse amazon and she'd pay for some books! I think I'll be hitting the .com instead of the .ca (gogo Canadian dollar!) and have it shipped to my hapless NY friend.

[info]caitlin_chan mailed me a present. I LOVE getting stuff in the mail <3 Thank you again! ::tacklehug::

Otherwise, life is kinda good. I want to play WoW again, I'm having fun poking at my fics, and messing around in pokemon-land.

Stuff I need to do:
-Find a name for my grey owl pet in WoW (so many fandoms to choose from, and none seem to fit!)
-Work out the plot line for Sasuke's return in the Pern AU
-Start leveling my Team Hungry in Pokemon Diamond >.> ::fails::
-Finish Pokemon Gale so I can start Battle Revolution
-Finish Pokemon Red so I can start Emerald again
-Write another porny fic
-Scan my pokemon fanarts
-Make notes for my NaNoWriMo project. Still daunted by the idea, but I should try it! Worldbuilding is hard, though T_T
-Level my dwarf hunter to 70 so she can raid
-Level my draenei hunter to 50 so he can continue Jewelcrafting

Yep, I'm not bored.

I went to Youtube to watch some clips from the High School Musical movie, since it keeps coming up on fanficrants, and I like musicals. It's cute, inoffensive, I mean, it's Disney. The bits I watched were pretty reminiscent of actual high school, in a metaphorical way (we never broke into song), all the way from the conformity issues ("Stick with the Status Quo" --I actually quite like that song, though I wish I knew why the chorus volume was so low) to the sense of optimism about the future ("We're all in this together").

That second song made me rather depressed. I certainly like making a bit of money, and the ability to buy stuff that I want, and my boyfriend and living away from my parents, but there's some to be said for that sense, when you're a kid, that you can do anything you want, the future is wide open.

The you go to university and the real world comes knocking (y hello thar, student loans) and every year is another step down a specific path. Whether you're lucky, and it's what you want, or you're inlucky, and have no idea what you want to do, it doesn't matter. Path gets narrower over time.

WTF, I'm only twenty-five (well, nearly), I shouldn't be pissing and moaning about this already.

Tagged by [info]atticus_frog. Erk.

1. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
2. Tag seven people to do the same.
3. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag whoever wants to do it.

I tag... uh... I don't know seven people who have me on their flists, but how about [info]myrafur and [info]pacificpikachu! And [info]caitlin_chan if she spots this!

1/ I have four tiny frogs in a fishtank on my desk. Afican Dwarf Frogs. They are awesome.

2/ I have trouble writing porny fic when my BF is in the room, so I bought a laptop to be able to do it in the TV room. (And so I could play Pokemon in front of the TV and check stuff online at the same time).

3/ I love opening things when I don't know what's inside. Presents, scratch cards, collectible card packs, treasure chests and lockboxes in World of Warcraft...

4/ I'm always vaguely worried I'll get my toes caught in sewer grates, so I step over them or go around them.

5/ I like shiny things, but I hate wearing jewelery.

6/ All my World of Warcraft characters are named after fandom characters, (Inuzuka, Rodney, Ekaterin, Saganami, Boq, Broadway, Bronx, Seregil), except Tonko, who's named after my fic handle, which came from a spell name in FFXI Online (so it still sort of counts)

7/ I wore braces from the age of 18 (2001) to last month.
